WHAT IS CAROLINA BLACK BOOK?
Carolina Black Book is an online resource for easily finding black-owned businesses in South Carolina. It’s meant to be a one-stop-shop and directory, connecting consumers to black businesses around the state.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND CAROLINA BLACK BOOK?
Carolina Black Book was founded by Katera Anderson and Karriema Calhoun. Katera was inspired by the increasing support for black-owned businesses, and she sought out to develop an avenue to make it easier to connect consumers with the great businesses right in her home state of South Carolina. Katera shared her vision with her friend, Karriema, and together, they co-founded Carolina Black Book.
IS THERE A FEE TO BE LISTED ON CAROLINA BLACK BOOK?
It’s FREE. There’s no fee to be listed on the Carolina Black Book website or social media platforms.
WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA TO BE LISTED ON CAROLINA BLACK BOOK?
Criteria includes the following:
- Is black-owned
- Has a valid South Carolina business license (or valid registration with the South Carolina Secretary of State)
- Is currently open for business (e.g., dine-in, takeout, delivery, online, etc.)
- Has a website
- Has social media (Facebook and/or Instagram)
- Provide consent to Carolina Black Book to list business on website and social media
Restaurants and food & beverage related businesses have additional criteria to meet, such as being compliant with all food/safety regulations and has a ServSafe Food Manager or Food Handler certification.
HOW DO I GET MY BUSINESS ON CAROLINA BLACK BOOK?
It’s simple. We just need your permission, verify your business meets the criteria and complete this form.
I KNOW THERE ARE MORE BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES. WHY IS YOUR LIST SHORTER?
We would to love to showcase all black-owned businesses, but we also want to ensure we have consent from the business prior to listing them on the website.
